Department of Energy Systems Engineering

Department of Energy Systems Engineering covers a broad spectrum in energy sciences and technology. It offers learning opportunities to students from different backgrounds in engineering and sciences. It started offering an MS program in Energy Systems Engineering back in year 2012. By now, it has graduated about 90+ students with MS degress and it currently enrolls 15 PhD candidates. Faculty members with the ESE Department are working in different domains of energy such as energy storage, advanced energy materials, catalysis, bio-fuel engineering, solar energy applications, gas turbines, energy economics, energy efficiency and audit, etc. Faculty members and the graduate students at this Department have access to advance equipment/tools for research in these areas.

Head of Department Message

Dr Rabia Liaquat

Welcome to the Department of Energy Systems Engineering at the USPCAS-E NUST. Rapid increase in energy demand and the recent energy crises have raised serious concerns about Pakistan’s energy security and sustainable development in future. Pakistan is Alhamdulillah blessed with vast amount of energy resources. Energy Systems Engineering (ESE) is a highly interdisciplinary domain and the ESE is the largest department within the USPACS-E with over 10+ faculty members. At the graduate level, ESE offers two degrees, MS Engineering and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). ESE is a research-intensive department. Our faculty, research staff and students are engaged in cutting-edge research activities that span a diversity of areas. After completing the course work requirements, students can carry out advance research either in solar energy applications, advanced energy materials & systems, biofuel engineering, electrochemical devices, energy economics, modelling of energy systems/process, etc. ESE interacts with the private and the public-sector organizations to train the manpower and address the challenges facing across the board. Faculty members at the ESE Department have also attracted many research grants from various organizations which along with our well-equipped facilities have raised our research profile in recent times. I hope that you will find the information you are looking for in our website. If not, please do not hesitate to contact us through phone or email. Best wishes and regards, Dr. Rabia Liaquat

VISION & MISSION

The vision of Department of Energy System Engineering resides in setting up advance research to demonstrate the feasibility of specific programs in various energy sectors, thus fostering meaningful and sustainable academia-industry collaboration. Renewable Energy conversion and Storage technologies like Solar, Wind, Hydro, Biomass, Fuel Cells, Hydrogen, Batteries together with energy policy and management are identified as focal areas by the Department of Energy System Engineering. The department outreach is triggered by its interaction with its multiple research and technical collaboration partners both at home and abroad. Further effective collaborations will be fostered as the energy center of excellence evolves and grows with due diligence at a fast pace.
The mission of ESE department is to train students to pursue high quality research in different areas of energy and occupy senior positions in industry. The program develops research and development skills in students at the same time. The skills developed in students help them to either go for doctoral studies or opt to take appropriate energy professional positions in industry. Programs at ESE department provide a pivot to its Institutions involved in energy sector programs and to support and consolidate the various activities/projects, which make good sense for scalable and sustainable operations with a view to contribute to industry and national economy in times of energy crisis.
